It's mixed, but I lean more positively on this one in the end for its sheer creativity and charm.Easy-access downloads let you quickly download hi-res, non-watermarked images. The artistry is impressive enough to overcome the less impressive colors, and the characters are strong enough to make the journey worthwhile. The emotions thankfully are stronger than they have been in some of Andersons other films, and there is enough heart to carry the film through its clunkier parts. The movie is a mixed bag to be sure, and it does start to drag a bit in the middle before fortunately picking up in the end. In its story it starts off simply enough with a boy who just wants to find his dog and the journey there is strong enough to carry the whole film through and pull at the heart strings of any animal lover, but then later on this whole conspiracy plot begins to develop that gets rather confusing and ultimately goes nowhere. There' s a lot I'm conflicted on with the film on the one hand the miniature sets are meticulously designed and the cinematography is gorgeously choreographed, but on the other the color scheme is consistently grey and really ugly to look at.
There is a lot of charm to this movie, and at times it's quite funny, but it begins to meander in its second act and loses sense of focus. Lately his movies are sliding right in the middle, and Isle of Dogs is no different. For a long time Wes Anderson movies were super hit or miss for me, like 5 stars or 1 stars only.
